Regulatory Status and Safety of Microorganisms used. The natural, non-genetically modified microorganisms we use, are freely available and have long been identified, listed, and classified by the scientific community and public authorities.
In accordance with Directive 2000/54/EC and the classification established by the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB – CR 12894:1997), known microorganisms are divided into five risk categories.
The microorganisms authorized for use in bioremediation and environmental protection belong exclusively to Class 1.
This class includes microorganisms that:
-
have never been identified as agents causing disease in humans
-
present no risk to the environment (as defined by the EFB)
They are therefore authorized for use without prior notification to the competent worker protection authorities (in accordance with Article 2 of the Directive).
These microorganisms fall within the same safety category as those commonly used in the food industry.
